Join us for our third Friday Kabbalat Shabbat, with guest speaker Rabbi Suri Krieger, who will expose us the epic artist, Arthur Syk.
This session will explore the images of the Epic Jewish artist, Arthur Szyk. As a Polish-American artist, he is most known for his elaborately illustrated Haggadah. But he is equally renowned for his poignant political caricatures of WWII leaders and of biblical characters.
Szyk’s art is often shocking or outrageous, with styles ranging from cartoonism to classical Baroque. Here is a taste … his depiction of Esther and Mordechai:
Rabbi Suri Krieger had the pleasure of serving as Rabbi and Spiritual Director of B’nai Or, Jewish Renewal of Boston for eight years. Music, art and Jewish Renewal have been her spiritual grounding. She was privileged to study with the founder of Jewish Renewal, Reb Zalman Schachter, her PhD supervisor at Temple University. Prior to B’nai Or, she taught at the catholic Sacred Heart University for eight years, enabling her to be directly involved in Interfaith Dialogue.
