“Introducing the Jewish Community of Indonesia”
In 2015, nine years after moving to Australia, Rabbi Shoshana Kaminsky became one of two consulting rabbis for the Jewish community of Indonesia. Yes, Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world, has a small community of Jews scattered across six locations that span nearly the entire country. Five years later, Rabbi Shoshana has visited Indonesia four times and remains in constant contact with members of the United Indonesian Jewish Community. In this talk and power point presentation, she'll introduce this fascinating and wonderful group.
Shoshana Kaminsky has been the rabbi of Beit Shalom Synagogue in Adelaide, South Australia, since 2006. She serves on the board of Jewish Community Services of South Australia and the South Australia/Northern Territory Association of Clinical Pastoral Education. She is past-president of the Assembly of Rabbis and Cantors of Australia, New Zealand and Asia and currently serves as that body's treasurer. She is also active in the Multifaith Association of South Australia and the Australia Religious Response to Climate Change. In 2019, she was awarded an honorary doctor of divinity degree on the 25th anniversary of her graduation from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, singing in the synagogue choir, studying the Indonesian language, and spending time with her dog, kitten and two grown sons.
