Eric Lidji of The Rauh Jewish Archives Presents "Ambridge: Small-Town or Suburb?"  Ambridge is unique among the Jewish communities of Western Pennsylvania. It shares some features with the dozens of small-town communities throughout the region. And yet it also shares some features with the three suburban communities in the region. Explaining these distinctions sheds light on the history of the Ambridge community and the distinctive qualities of Jewish history in Western Pennsylvania.

Eric Lidji is the director of the Rauh Jewish Archives at the Senator John Heinz History Center. He was raised in Pittsburgh and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2004. Prior to his time with the archives, he was a journalist for community newspapers in Pennsylvania, Texas and Alaska. He has overseen history projects for the Jewish Healthcare Foundation, the National Council of Jewish Women-Pittsburgh Section and Rodef Shalom Congregation. He is the author of “The Seventeenth Generation: The Lifework of Rabbi Walter Jacob” and a coeditor of “Her Deeds Sing Her Praises: Profiles of Pittsburgh Jewish Women,” and he curates the RJHPA’s website “Generation to Generation,” which profiles Jewish families and communities in Western Pennsylvania.
